YOGA

with Mike McArdle

My teaching style is flowing and highly eclectic, incorporating various influences including, Pilates, Strength Training, Plyometrics, Gyrotonics and the best practices of the many great teachers whom I have had the good fortune to meet.

My classes are an improvisational affair. No two classes are the same. I like to impart a sense of play, irreverence, good music and fun to promote a safe atmosphere of positive thinking and body awareness.

I use visual demonstrations and hands-on adjustments to assist my students to achieve their goals. My hope is to have my students leave my class feeling renewed, refreshed and invigorated.

ABOUT MIKE

I embarked on my first yoga training without the slightest suspicion that this discipline would grow to become an intergral part of my daily life.

After beginning my studies with BIKRAM in 1999, followed by a Pilates Certification with Laurie Hurt, I established my Vinyasa foundation with the 200-Hour Sacred Movement Teachers' Training in Los Angeles in 2002.

I continued my studies with Brian Kest Power Yoga Intensives, Pure Yoga Foundation Training with Rod Stryker, Anti Gravity Aerial Hammock Training, and a 12-month anatomy course with Leslie Kaminoff at the Breathing Project.

My natural curiosity has led me to study many different styles and disciplines. I have been strongly influenced by Iyengar and vinyasa styles of yoga. Currently I continue to immerse myself and deepen my knowledge of yoga with Alison West at her center, Yoga Union. I now have two new classes  teaching self-myofascial release with props: Motus and Body TRAC.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Working privately with a teacher allows for personal attention to focus on specific needs, such as dealing with an injury or health concerns.

Beginners

Brand new beginners often feel intimidated walking into a yoga class for the first time. Taking a few private classes can give you the confidence and knowledge to feel comfortable in a group setting.

Intermediate/Advanced Students

Working one on one can help you to progress in your practice. You can learn how to work into advanced postures in a safe manner and be able to ask questions throughout the class.

Weekly Privates

Some students prefer the ease of working privately on a regular basis. You can set up a weekly time slot and enjoy the comfort of your own home.

Therapeutics

If you are recovering from injuries or suffer from chronic pain, yoga can help the healing process and alleviate discomfort.

DVD

Bethenny is back with "The Skinnygirl Workout"

"Bethenny’s Skinnygirl Workout features NYC yoga instructor Mike McArdle who, alongside Bethenny, puts you through a series of movements and poses that range from I-can-do-that to no-freaking-way-I-can-do-that-yet. And the “yet” is perhaps the most important word in that sentence. The DVD is inspiring – in a calm, yoga way – and, if Bethenny’s level of fitness, as evidenced by her incredibly fit body, is any indication of the benefits of yoga, you’ll want to stick with it until you reach a similar level or get fitter by trying. The video is intimate. You feel as if you’ve been invited to join a private lesson."
